Microsoft includes the Sysprep tool set on the installation CD-ROM discs for Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows 2003. It also distributes Sysprep 1.1 from the Microsoft Web site. To perform a Windows customization, you must install the Sysprep tools either from your installation disc, or from the 1.1 download package. Feb 18, 2016 I encourage you all to use and take advantage of the Internet Archive (WayBack Machine) to download Microsoft software. The IA is a 501©(3) non profit organization in the United States, and has been archiving the web since 1996.

In many way, Windows 2000 is still quite a productive business operating system. In this How-To, I'll give you tips on how to browse the modern web successfully and safely on this venerable operating system. Pay special attention to the points in BOLD.
Step 1. Install Windows 2000.
Step 2. Install Windows 2000 Service Pack 4. (http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/6/A/E6A04295-D2A8-40D0-A0C5-241BFECD095E/W2KSP4_EN.EXE).If this link goes down in the future simply use the archived version (http://web.archive.org/web/20120504033239/http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/6/A/E6A04295-D2A8-40D0-A0C5-241BFECD095E/W2KSP4_EN.EXE).
For best results, it is also recommended but not required to install Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 (KB891861) (http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/7/b/27b1d1a3-0299-4336-b88a-22b9f09817e2/Windows2000-KB891861-v2-x86-ENU.EXE). If this link goes down in the future simply use the archived version. (http://web.archive.org/web/20120523190313/http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/7/b/27b1d1a3-0299-4336-b88a-22b9f09817e2/Windows2000-KB891861-v2-x86-ENU.EXE)
Step 3. Install DirectX 9.0c February 2010 (http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/E/1/EE17FF74-6C45-4575-9CF4-7FC2597ACD18/directx_feb2010_redist.exe). If this link goes down in the future simply use the archived version (http://web.archive.org/web/20120429155607/http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/E/1/EE17FF74-6C45-4575-9CF4-7FC2597ACD18/directx_feb2010_redist.exe). While not listed in Microsoft's system requirements, this is the final that installs and runs correctly on Windows 2000. If you do not install DirectX 9.0c you will see Adobe Flash Playercomplain about a missing or outdated 'd3d9.dll'.
Step 4. Install any up to date browser that is compatible with Windows 2000. This is both for security and functionality. This will include Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1, Mozilla Firefox 10.0.12esr (http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/10.0.12esr/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%2010.0.12esr.exe) (extended support release), Opera 12.02 (http://arc.opera.com/pub/opera/win/1202/en/Opera_1202_en_Setup.exe) . Internet Explorer 6 is no longer available for download, so you'll need to download the archived version (http://web.archive.org/web/20120430024343/http://download.microsoft.com/download/ie6sp1/finrel/6_sp1/W98NT42KMeXP/EN-US/ie6setup.exe) or find a site with the full download.
Step 5. Download Adobe Flash Player 11.1.102.55. For Internet Explorer install the 'flashplayer11_1r102_55_win_ax_32bit.exe' file. For all other browsers install the 'flashplayer11_1r102_55_win_32bit.exe' file.
Being that this is a no-longer supported version of Flash, unsupported operating system, and an outdated version of Internet Explorer, I would highly recommend installing and running Avast Free Antivirus (http://www.avast.com). The new versions including Avast 8 still support Windows 2000 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=115499.180) . Avast 8 requires the above mentioned Service Pack 4, Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 (KB891861), and Internet Explorer 6 SP1.
